Create an informal, relaxed atmosphere with Asymmetrical Balance

home Create an informal, relaxed atmosphere with Asymmetrical Balance

Looking to create a crisp, uncluttered country bedroom scheme?  Painted floorboards, distressed bedside lockers, crisp white bedlinen, blue stripes and large gingham checks — what could be simpler and yet so effective?

What I really like about this bedroom is the use of asymmetrical balance either side of the bed.  Symmetrical balance is when objects and items on either side  are exactly the same and work wonderfully in formal settings. Asymmetrical balance is when different objects of similar size, width, height, colour are used to provide balance, and creates a much more informal effect.

The picture on the wall with the plant on one side balances perfectly with the lampshade and cup and saucer on the other side.  Nice and refreshing here as it adds to the informal, relaxed country mood of this gorgeous bedroom.

That is nice, mixing up the look with the balance of the matching side tables and the asymmetrical look of the objects on either side. Much less predictable and more relaxed!
