One of my really good girlfriends and I have birthdays 2 days apart. Our birthdays also fall just a couple of weeks after Christmas, so birthdays have always been kind of an “afterthought” for us. A few years ago, we decided to start celebrating our birthdays together by going out to dinner together (with our husbands). It’s been become a highlight of the year! We always go somewhere different. We don’t always go right at our birthday (and one year it just plumb didn’t work out) but we always have fun and enjoy our celebration whenever it happens! We really like spending time with this couple. There’s a good balance of things we have in common and ways that we are different that really helps keep the conversations and good times flowing.

We started a dinner group. There are 5 couples, and we rotate hosting the meal each month. We take off June and December. Our spending limit is $20/couple – gives us $100 to come up with a smashing meal, but we rarely spend that much. It’s fabulous!
