What a great story.

I need to remember this when I am doing different things with the kids as we all move in. I do worry that my teens are the one who will feel the least loved because they make the choices not to do things with all of us (day hikes, carnivals, etc.) Also because I never had a ton of money as they are growing up and with the youngest they will not experience those harder times.

I am very diligent at the holidays to make sure that everyone gets their fair share of items, etc, even with the mixed family.

We will see how this goes and I can't thank these thoughts enough. I learn so much every day about how to integrate into a mixed family for the first time!

Having a mixed family is difficult; all three of us children in my family came from a different father, the last of us -- my little sister -- from the father we stayed with for most of our early lives. My brother and I agree that she got preferential treatment because she was his... being the two stepchildren was hard for us, even though we had so many more people to love us. Sometimes, it's hard for Moms to remember that although the bucket overflows with love from others, children still need an equal portion from those parents right in front of them to feel any of it.
