"We must have a theme, a goal, a purpose in our lives. If you don't know where you're aiming, you don't have a goal. My goal is to live my life in such a way that when I die, someone can say, she cared."~Mary Kay Ash

Enjoying the Life You Design

If someone were to ask me when was the best day of my life, I would have to say today! You might say, but what about the day that you got married; had your first child and; other events. Each one of those days was also the best day of my life at the time. Life is a journey, not a destination, and it is whatever you design it to be!

Do you have a passion and purpose for your life? Many women ask themselves that question when their children are grown, particularly if that was the main focus of their life for so many years. Here are some tips for designing a life and enjoying it along the way.

  • Have an attitude of gratitude- even when things are not going the way that you planned. ( They rarely do)
  • Focus on making others happy. If you treat everyone the way that you would want to be treated, your joy will be increased.
  • Take time out for yourself, no matter what stage of life that you are in. Age is an attitude. If you don’t take time, time will take you! Using good skin care products will make a huge difference as you get older.
  • Learn how to apply cosmetics like a pro. I discovered that by changing the technique that I was using for my eye shadow application I actually looked younger. Find someone who is knowledgeable in that field and learn from them. The shapes of your eyes change as you get older, so there are “secrets” that you can enhance the change.
  • Don’t take yourself too seriously. Humor is one of the most common traits that people who live to be over 100 years old have. Don’t forget to laugh.
  • Live each day as if it were your last. Procrastination is the great thief of time. Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
  • If you have a job or a business, make sure that you don’t place it ahead of your spouse or family in priority. Relationships are what really matter more than material things.
  • Always have a goal, for every area of your life – personal, spiritual, financial, business, family.
  • Never stop learning. I think that reading is one of the best forms of continuing education. In addition to books, there are also podcasts and other material on the internet that you can use.
  • Discover the benefit of a mentor. If you have already accomplished something, there is a feeling of fulfillment by passing that knowledge on to others.
  • Keep fitness a priority by getting enough exercise, drinking plenty of water, and eating nutritious, fresh whole foods.
  • Continue to make friends and culture the relationships that you already have. A smile may be the only one that someone receives that day. Let it be yours. (It also adds instant beauty)
  • Look for opportunities to be of service to others. God can use you when you least expect it.
  • Take time to enjoy a rainbow, the beauty of a child, or a sunset. Your positive attitude will be contagious!

Your thoughtful post reminds me of how my grandmother lived her life & she lived to be 101.

I'm going to print your tips & keep them where I can continue to reflect on them. Thanks for sharing.
