In my life, there are two things that dominate conversation other than faith and family. Those two things are technology (i.e. twitter, the iPhone , etc) and shopping. My husband is a web designer who has built his entire business using social media outlets and brings the technology talk to the table, while I, the fashion lover, bring the shopping.

Imagine my surprise when I received a text message from my favorite low price shoe store, Payless, this week. In short, the text said, "Thanks for giving us your number. Show this text to get 20% off your purchase between these dates." It gave an opt-out option and a number to call if I had questions. While some may find this annoying, I found it great.
In my opinion, it's a step in the right direction for the retail world as we know it to change. Traditionally, when you give your number in a store, they use it send you ads in the mail. With the advent of cell phones, this practice is becoming out-dated, as they can no longer get your address simply from your number. Sending a text to the given number is prefect for me. It's quick, doesn't clutter my mailbox, and I don't have to keep up with a physical coupon.
Texting to shop can work both ways. This summer, I saw an ad in Lucky magazine for swimsuits at Dillard's. Along with the picture, they provided a brief product description and price. However, what really caught my eye was something on these lines, "Text blue49 to 55555 to purchase this item." Wow! So now I can purchase the item from my cell phone when I see it. I don't have to go to the store. I don't even have to have my laptop. A shopaholics dream.
Texting to shop is just one way retailers are trying to reach out to all of us tech savvy fashionistas. In the coming weeks, I'll show you some of my other favorite tech-friendly ways to shop, save, and look great!
