And I feel slightly irresponsible posting that; however, if someone had warned me, perhaps it wouldn't have seemed so bad. I am sorry that no one warned me!

I so agree! I went to my first specialty lingerie shop to be fitted when I was nursing, and I won't buy a bra anywhere else now. The ladies at store have you try them on and then they do a fit check and adjust the straps on each one. They will even say, "No, you can't buy that one. It doesn't fit the way it should." Love them, and it really makes a difference.

What a GREAT post!! I think it is such a mystery, sometimes, trying to choose the correct bra. I am one of those super sized girls, and we REALLY need our bra support!! So, thanks.

I have to interject another suggestion - If you think you might be bigger than average, a department store measuring may fail you. Some of us ladies are just bigger in the cup than what a department store carries, or actually need a smaller band size than the standard measuring method will generate.
Remember, the weight of your breasts should be mostly carried by the band - not the straps.

A speciality store (and I'm not talking Victoria's Secret) might be the best way for such women to find the right size. The one I have shopped at for 14 years carried up to a 52L (yes L - DDD is not the end of the road). These speciality shops not only carry a wide range of sizes, but many of them also specialize in mastectomy bras, swimwear, and bridal/formal bras.

Just my 2 cents!
