You know summer is here when "flip flop, flip flop" is the sound you hear wherever you go. Grandmothers, teenagers, toddlers and moms….we're all polished and pedicured (hopefully) and ready to show our tootsies to the world.
How about making some flip flop cookies for your next girls' night out? Here's how:
- Using a #2 tip and bright pink royal icing, pipe the flip flop strap outline slightly off center. (AmeriColor Electric Pink)
- Using another #2 tip, outline the remaining flip flop shape in yellow. (AmeriColor Lemon Yellow)
- Thin both icings (reserving some pink for later) with a little water until the icing is the consistency of thick syrup.
- Cover with a damp dishcloth and let sit several minutes.
- Run a silicone spatula through the icings to pop any large air bubbles that have formed. Transfer to squeeze bottles.
- Fill in the strap in pink.
- Working about 6 cookies at a time, fill in the yellow section. Use a toothpick to guide into edges.
- Go back and drop dots of the pink icing onto the wet yellow icing.
- Let dry at least one hour.
- Thin white icing just a litte until it flows, but will keep it's shape.
- Pipe a flower onto the strap.
- Add a large dot of pink into the middle of the flower.
- Using a #2 tip, re-pipe the outline of the straps, meeting up with the flower detail.
