"What we do flows from who we are." ~Paul Vitale

I love to take pictures of people.
I love to take pictures of animals.
I love to take pictures of my surroundings.
I love to take pictures of everything and anything; myself, included.
I've taken to calling self portraits, "selfy pees". Catchy, no? In my life I'm the only one who seems to be able to capture my good side. My dad always makes me look like the Jolly Green Giant by using bad, low angles. Michael, my husband, seems to always catch me with my eyes closed. My son, Mikey, age 11, usually catches me being a big goof. Me, though? I totally take the best picture of myself.
Here are four things to always remember:
1) One Chin, Please: I bring the camera a little above eye level. This eliminates the double chin that I have acquired over the years.
2) Work It, Baby: I tend to angle my shoulders, to create depth. I don't want a straight on shot. That's just boring and not flattering, at all.
3) The Eyes Have It: I often look away from the camera. It's playful and whimsical, in my opinion. Oh, and a little coy.
4) Rest Assured: Relax. This is the digital age. Take as many shots as you like until you get that perfect shot. The picture above was taken about twenty times, I kid you not!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love these tips and will definitely give them a go.
Totally agree on the chin thing! I actually also suck the waddle in (I can't believe I'm admitting that). And if you stick your chin out and just slightly down, it helps. Never make the mistake of tilting the head back when you stick the chin out, though, ack!
Thanks for the tips, Mishi! You Selfy Pees are gorgeous.
Love, love, love portraits. Especially self-portraits. There is nothing like learning to and loving capturing yourself.
This is great. Lets put an end to the myspace picture pose
Love it!
I am the only person who gets a decent picture of myself – my husband thinks it's nuts – he either gets too much of my whole self in the picture (so I am just in a sea of background), my daughter is too short, so she gives me multiple chins..
I try to angle shots to make my nose look cute. True story.
First, let me start by saying, "GREAT PIC!" It's truly lovely!
I must admit, I chuckled a few times reading your post…there was so much truth there!
You are SO right: I am the ONLY one who seems to take a good picture of me!
I am a self-portrait FANATIC! Even if there is going to be me and someone else in the picture, I'm like, "Here, let me take it!" And they're always so surprised that I know how to hold it at the right angle to get the PERFECT picture every time! (Practice makes perfect!)
Thanks for the candid, humorous and informative post! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Yep, for sure! Practice makes perfect. Now go forth and selfy-pee!
