Frugality 101: Try Something New

business and finance Frugality 101: Try Something New

Intimidated by the thought of living a frugal lifestyle?  It's not necessary to become the Coupon Queen overnight, or to grow all your food and make all your clothes rightthisveryminute.  Start small.  Try something new!

Accustomed to a frugal lifestyle but want to take it a step further?  You don't have to rid your home of all paper products or walk 10 miles round trip to work every day, simply try something new!

Our "something new" this week was lentils.  We are very much a meat and potatoes type family.  In fact, I had never even heard of lentils until I started blogging six months ago.  Turns out they are an incredibly frugal source of protein and iron.  Tasty, too!

The recipe we enjoyed was Lentil and Brown Rice Casserole from Cents to Get Debt-Free.  While this dish doesn't quite replace the comfort food yumminess of, say, barbecue meatballs and cheesy potatoes, it was really quite good!  And my husband's reaction when I told him that the whole pan cost maybe $1.25? Well, Mr. Carnivore himself agreed that lentils should make their way onto our menu plan more often.  ;-)

So, what's your "something new?"  What are you ready to try?  Now that my feet are wet, I'm ready to try more lentil recipes.  If you have a good one, please share!

I, too, had never in my life heard of lentils until I started blogging. Amazingly enough, every way I have fixed them, we have loved them.

I'm wanting some more recipes, too. I hope someone has some good ones to share!

  2. My family loves it when we make Taco Lentils. Just add taco shells, flour tortillas, sour cream and cheese and you've got a great meal!
