Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss
Summary:
The King of Didd announces that he is bored with sunshine, rain, fog, and snow, and tells his magicians to add some variety to the weather. As a result, large piles of sticky oobleck fall throughout the kingdom, covering everything. The king soon regrets his wish, but since his magicians' cave has been buried in oobleck, he can do nothing to remove the substance. Eventually, his page, Bartholomew, advises him to say "I'm sorry." The king complies, and the oobleck melts away.
Activity:
Make your own oobleck!
This stuff is FUN, but oh! so messy!!! Be sure to wear messy clothes and have lots of towels on hand for cleaning up (although clean-up is a breeze). This is also a great outside activity!
Simply mix 1 part water with 2 parts cornstarch (ex. 1 cup of water, 2 cups of cornstarch). It will get very hard to stir. You can also add a little bit of green food coloring to make it look like the stuff in the story. As the kids play with it, it remains hard; they can actually make it into a ball. As they let go, it runs through their fingers like water. Is it a liquid or a solid?

I love this book! I can't wait to read it with Jacob and then do the activity. Fun! Thanks for the idea!
Great idea – love the book
