At our house, it’s sweet bell peppers. That’s what pushed me over the edge into the world of gardening for the first time last summer. We enjoy them fresh with ranch or dill dip, sauteed for fajitas, or chopped up in our favorite casseroles. But the prices! No way am I paying over $1 for a pepper, and that’s just for the green ones. I’ve seen red and yellow bell peppers selling for $3 this winter!

We started a garden a few years ago. The best thing about peppers is that you can chop them, spread them on a cookie sheet and put them in the freezer for about 20 minutes. Then transfer to a freezer bag. I am still using red and yellow peppers today from last years garden. Cubanelle peppers are great for this too. Of course, these work best in cooked dishes but I love eating food I have grown! We still have butternut squash in the freezer as well! Yum!!
