Get Out of That Cage!

If you've read any of my posts, you know I listen to a lot of music and read a lot of books.  Then I yap about it to y'all.

faith Get Out of That Cage!

Today's yappin' is all about Mark Batterson's book Wild Goose Chase.

Batterson tells us that the ancient Celts referred to the Holy Spirit as the Wild Goose: untamable, untrackable, full of adventure.  He wonders why modern Christianity is full of people who play it so safe, and he challenges us as Christ followers to chase the Wild Goose!

Batterson identifies six cages that we tend to get locked into:

  • responsibility
  • routine
  • assumptions
  • guilt
  • failure
  • fear

He devotes one chapter to each cage, challenging people stuck in that particular predicament to come out of the cage and live live to the fullest — to join in the Wild Goose chase!

The book is slim — just under 200 pages — but I found it to be one of the most invigorating, personally challenging books I've read.  I've loaned out my copy to one friend and bought a second copy for a friend going into full-time ministry… talk about chasing the Wild Goose!  Batterson's conversational style, the solid Biblical backing for all his points, and his obvious enthusiasm for getting people out of their ruts and living in the kind of excitement God planned for them combine to make this book a great way to awaken passion in someone who's been going through the motions of Christianity.

Are you stuck in a cage? I was, and I'm trying to get out.

Do you want all the excitement of a life truly lived with and for God? If you're excited by this description, you'll be blown away by the book.  I highly recommend it!
