According to the Google Reader Blog, our favorite feed reader is now your new watercooler. GReader's new commenting feature allows you to add a comment to any item you share or any item your friends have shared. Now you can aggregate, read, share, and have a private conversation about any web page you find interesting.
Google Reader's commenting function is currently a "just between friends" thing — comments through Reader aren't visible on the blog or by the public — although Google claims to have much more planned for the feature. Every time a social media service adds a commenting enhancement, there is the inevitable debate over taking the conversation away from the blog itself. Some sites, like FriendFeed, allow you to export comments back to your blog. While Google Reader may someday follow FriendFeed's lead, I think the ability to share private comments between friends is valuable. Instead of emailing a post link and comment to your friends, you can simply share it and comment right in GReader.
To use this feature, look under your "Friends Shared Items" and check out the "Comment View" link.

Interesting! Thanks for sharing!
