Have you ever wondered what your kid's teachers deal with every day? Or better yet, what they really think about your child?
Get yourself a copy of Phillip Done's 32 Third Graders and One Class Bunny: Life Lessons from Teaching and prepare yourself for a thoroughly funny, insightful, warm and cuddly read.
Mr. Done has taught elementary school for twenty years and says in a typical day he, "fixes staplers that won't staple, zippers that won't zip, and pokes pins in the orange caps of the glue bottles that will not pour."
He has sung "Happy Birthday" 657 times. And annually wishes that April Fool's Day falls on a weekend.
Aside from the adorable third grade life anecdotes, the book is chock full of love for each and every one of his students. I plucked a tissue or two from the box as I read Mr. Done's descriptions of the last day of school:
"It's never easy for me to let my little birds go. I know the names of all their pets. I was the first one to sign their casts. I know that Joey's dad is not living at home anymore. I know how much they grew on the wall chart….Parents have eighteen years to get ready to send their kids out of the nest. Teachers only get ten months."
One thing is for certain, after reading his book you'll find yourself wishing that your child could have Mr. Done for the third grade. I know I do.
