This will be our kids' first year trick-or-treating and we'll likely only go to family member's houses and a church fall festival. I worry about safety issues. Think about it…lots of excited little kids wearing costumes (many of which are dark in color and obscure clear vision) running around the neighborhood while cars carrying other excited kids drive past. To a worrying mom like me, this looks like a recipe for disaster!
So what can we do to keep our kids safe during their Halloween fun? How can Halloween Safety hold hands with Halloween Fun?
- More and more churches, schools and civic organizations are hosting events called "trunk-or-treat" parties. These include parked cars with their trunks decorated and filled with goodies…all within a safe environment.
- Others keep their trick-or-treating to a familiar area or neighborhood to minimize the dangers.
- Most families try to get their trick-or-treating done during daylight hours when visibility isn't a concern.

I am trying to get our neighborhood to put together a "trunk or treat" type event at our local park! Safety is a big concern here and I think it is an excellent way to have folks who want to pass out candy to do it safely as well as have a safe place for kids to do it! Now, I just have to get families in our neighborhood to sign up….
