Teaching art can be intimidating, especially for the parent who does not have artistic talent or experience. There is a lot to learn and know. First there is vocabulary, concepts, and techniques. Then there are all those artists and their works to analyze and appreciate. It is often overwhelming!
Fortunately, there is an easy way to teach basic art concepts and appreciation to young children. Creativity Express, an interactive educational program created by MapCap Logic, makes teaching art easy. This program, offered on a CD or via an online subscription, teaches children, ages 7-12, all they need to know about art.
The program has three main sections. In Say Art, cute animated characters take the child through a series of videos and activities to teach a variety of art concepts. Here they will learn about color mixing, hue, saturation, and more. In See Art, the student has the chance to put what they have learned to practice with activities and quizzes, such as seeing how famous artists used those techniques in their works. In Do Art, the student is given suggestions for hands-on projects to complete with their own art supplies.
The program is entertaining, engaging, and educational. Students will not only enjoy creating their own works but will learn to appreciate art by others. It is a wonderful, easy program and comes at a great price. Their website even offers an online demo that you can go through with your child to see if it is a good fit for you.
