1. Shoot wide.
Open that aperture. Get the number as low as you can. This creates sharp focus with a blurred background, keeping attention where you want it. Learn more here.
2. Shoot in natural light and look for catchlights.
It really makes colors pop and evens out skin tones.
3. Get up close and personal.
Fill your frame with those beautiful eyes. Or hands. Or feet.
4. Come together, right now.
Bring people together to show relationships. Little hands holding a big hand, wedding rings on little fingers. In the photo above, I showed the contrast in respective sizes, textures (the worn feet verses the creamy smooth baby feet), and ability (they can both stand – a new development for the baby).
The photos included here are a little on the cool side. That’s okay. That’s the look we were going for. Don’t be afraid of a little color, but do be aware of it. Shoot with intent and watch for fortuitous moments!

Great post and tips, but you have a typo in your blog link!
Oh! I love these photos, Becca! Just look at those gorgeous baby blues! Can you tell I'm gushing/drooling? The feet/standing/jeans is ultra-darling too. I'm pretty amazed at all you do…not mediocre at anything if you ask me! Wish you were closer…
LOVE!!!!!! Thank you for sharing!
