We are now a week into summer vacation and I have yet to decide who is having a more difficult time adjusting – my daughters or me. As a work-at-home-mom, I found my balance in the school year. I was able to weave my work schedule around my daughters' schedules. This allowed me to be a more fully present mom when they weren't at school.
In the summer time, that changes. Work time and Mom time meld together. Today, I was on a deadline for work and my three year old wanted to run in the sprinkler. Today was a perfect summer day – clear blue sky, warm air, hardly any bugs. I don't blame her for wanting to be out in the sprinkler! But I kept saying, "Just a minute – mom is working. I'm almost done. I'll be right there. We'll go soon."
And I hated it. I hated putting off the time in the sun and I hated making her wait.
My daughters are used to school days full of structure, as I am used to my work life containing structure and though it may take a few weeks of adjustment, we will find our groove and though it won't be the same as during the school year, we'll find a way that works for us.
As for today? I found a good stopping point, slid on my flip flops, and took my kids outside. I was able to get work done after dinner – and the echo of my three year old's exhilarated laughter? Totally worth it!

I'm dealing with the disruption as well. Though my children are older, I still seem to be accomplishing less online. If only I could make my offline time more productive!
My boys are older, 18, 15 and almost 12. I'm having trouble too, and they are quite a bit older. None of them drive, so I am constantly running them everywhere. And therefore, I have to spend late nights, like tonight, getting my website taken care of. I just keep telling myself that the time with them will go really fast, as it has already, and I should cherish the time I have now.
Thanks for hosting!

We've been eating like kings this vacation. Loads of seafood. I saved the claws and bodies from our New England lobster boil (we ate the tails with steamed clams and boiled red potatoes) a few days ago and today I whipped up lobster salad. Sadly, I forgot to snap a picture until the near end of lunch today. Check it out here:
