I am Blissfully Domestic – Week 38

i am blissfully domestic I am Blissfully Domestic Week 38

Last year, I noticed myself putting on a few pounds despite being fairly attentive to what I eat and being diligent with my exercise habits. I went to the doctor and I said, "Doc, something is VERY wrong with me." She promised to do blood tests but said to me, "You know… you're getting older – and what used to be enough for your body may not necessarily be enough anymore. Your current diet may need to be watched even further, and you may have to modify your exercise routine."

At that time, it turned out that my thyroid was indeed cranky, and once my hypothyroid was diagnosed I was given a prescription to take every day. However, her words stuck with me because a year later, I notice that I'm not getting the same results from what I've been doing.

I've resorted to desperate measures.

I'm going to start running.

My old motto was to avoid running unless I was being chased. Sure, I've run off and on over the years – I go through cycles. I hate it, but get results with it. My endurance is horrid though and I decided I needed to do something a little more rational to make this a habit that sticks.

Couch to 5K. My friends recommend it. There's a nifty little app for my iPhone. I'm doing it. Tonight was my first workout and it wasn't totally horrible. Here's hoping this is a healthy habit I can adopt.

I am right there with you. I run on and off, but I am not a fan of running. Running and I have a love-hate relationship. I really do want to get back into it, but I really have every excuse in the book. *sigh*
Good for you! It's funny — I just got an email from Runners World (my husband runs) today on how to run your first 5k in 8 weeks. Eight weeks isn't bad. Sounds like a slow and steady training program. Maybe I'll take it up! :)

I really need to start exercising more. I walk the dog once a day (or so) but I don't think that really counts.
Thanks for hosting! Glad to see you are back!

I need to start exercising too! I bought a treadmill a few months back and started running 2 miles a day (which trust me is a feat for me) and after a couple weeks I stopped and haven't stepped foot on it again. Thanks for motivating me!

Good for you!!! I wish I could stick with a work out…just need to set my mind to it and suck it up!

  6. Ack! I am right there with you. The big 4-0 is coming up next year and it's harder and harder lately to get the weight off. My 9-year-old asked me to run a marathon with her next May and I had a case of temporary insanity and told her yes. But I don't run. I've never run! ha ha What was I thinking? :)
