The flag of Ireland is composed of three colors — green, white, and orange.
The green represents the Catholics in Ireland; the orange represents the Protestants, and supporters of William of Orange, who settled there in the 17th century; and the white represents peace between the two groups of people.
Have your preschooler fine tune his coloring and directional skills by making an Irish flag!
- Divide a rectangular sheet of white paper into thirds, leaving about a 1/2 inch margin at the left end for the pole.
- Have your child start at the left, coloring in the first block green.
- Leave the middle block white.
- Color the right block orange.
- Roll the 1/2 inch margin around a straw and use tape to fasten.
- Be sure to display your flags on St. Patricks Day (March 17th)!
