With all the economic uncertainty, many people are doing their best to make every dollar count. Here is a simple way to get more use out of old bath towels, hand towels, or kitchen towels by making cleaning rags.

For this tutorial, I will be re-using an old kitchen towel that looks too grubby for my kitchen, but still has plenty of life left in it. I use my serger for these types of projects, however a regular sewing machine will do the trick as well.
First off, this particular kitchen towel had a thick edging along the two short sides, so I made sure to have the serger cut that off.

Next, I serged around the whole outer edge, rounding out the corners.

Then, I serged down the center of the towel.

I serged once more down the remaining two halves, to create four dish cloths/cleaning rags.

This took me approximately 2-3 minutes and I was able to keep an unwanted towel out of the landfill and save from having to buy new dish rags.
