Meeting the Parents, Step-Style

family Meeting the Parents, Step StyleMy thirteenĀ  year old stepson has a girlfriend. They've been "dating" (you know I have to use the term loosely because as thirteen-year-olds, they're not GOING anywhere) for about a month now and my husband said the other day, "The girlfriend's parents want to meet us."

US?

"Us?" I asked. "Not his mom?"

"Oh, her too," my husband said. "Her parents want to meet us all."

"At the SAME TIME?" I asked incredulously.

He said he didn't know. He wasn't sure, but said that the girlfriend's parents are also divorced and that her dad is the primary custodial parent, so he thought there would be some flexibility in that whole thing. While I'm befuddled why the parents feel an introduction is necessary, as teenage relationships often change with the season (particularly so young), I'm also gripped by the thought of how many such events in the future we'll need to do together with my stepson's mother. I kind of thought we had a little bit longer until those days arrived.
