Men's sex drives have befuddled women since the beginning of time. As women, we tend to over think, well…everything about marriage, especially sex. I like this reminder from Mark Gungor that, for guys, when it comes to the sex drive it's not a matter of what's on his mind or in his heart but directly linked to the testosterone hormone. That does not mean that there is not anything in their minds and hearts about sex. It's just the drive comes from somewhere else.
Our sex drive? Well, it's also connected to testosterone but it works differently in us. "Sexual desire in women is extremely sensitive to environment and context," says Edward O. Laumann, PhD, a professor of sociology at the University of Chicago.*
So what does this mean for marriage? Well, when he's "standing at attention" first thing in the morning and doing the "Honey, you awake?" nudge you have two options. You can over think the whole thing by wondering what he was dreaming about (except it wasn't sex) or worrying about your hair/breath/face (except he really does not care about that); or you can delight in it with him, acknowledging and accepting your God made differences and using them to keep your marriage happy and healthy.
