Papaya: the Latest in the Fight Against Cancer

beauty Papaya: the Latest in the Fight Against Cancer

Growing up on an island definitely has it perks: turquoise waters, breath-taking landscapes and all the exotic fruits you can stand to eat! My favorite things to pick were mangoes but one of my favorite fruit to eat was papaya.

Aside from being delightfully sweet, papaya is loaded with antioxidants and is a rich source of lycopene which helps protect against several different forms of cancer.  Plus, papaya has an enzyme called papain that when it's applied topically helps to speed burn recovery.

And if that doesn't make you want to run out and buy this exotic wonder how about this: papaya is one of the top sources for beta-cryptoxanthin which researchers suggest can help fight lung cancer.

So head on out to your public market, grocery store or fruit stand and pick up some papaya today!

Tips on Eating Papaya:

  • the seeds are not edible
  • no need to peel the skin, just scoop out the juicy fleshy part and enjoy
  • ripe papayas are golden yellow in color and yield to gentle pressure
