Christian Siriano, season four Project Runway winner, known for the catchphrase "That's fierce!" has designed his first-ever footwear collection for Fall '09. For Payless! Available in September, each style features Christian's unique chunky conical heel which he designed to look like an inverted pyramid, and most have a hidden platform, like this one.

I have to say this shoe is pretty fierce, in a Mad Max: Return to Thunderdome kind of way. Siriano is just the latest high-end designer to collaborate with Payless. Styles by Abaete, Alice + Olivia, and Lela Rose are all available on Payless.com and in stores, all for $40 or less.
You can find the fall designs by all of these designers including Siriano on the artfully designed Payless on the Runway site, where it states that Siriano is taking his sleek runway aesthetic in an edgy direction with this collection. I've heard of edgy, but really? Is that some kind of pun? Those are actual spikes on that shoe!
I was rooting for the quirky and confident Christian to win Project Runway and he seems incredibly talented. I find him very engaging on The Fashion Police on E! because his observations always seem fairly delivered and particularly constructive, not just the typical screeching pans or the tired "She can do no wrong in my book."
Siriano definitely seems to be the "edgiest" of the Payless designer partners. Some of the more sedate styles like the Lela Rose Arcady slingbacks are a favorite of fashion bloggers and work a little better for the life I live, as do the Olive + Olivia Mary Jane flat slingbacks, the Lela Rose Wedge heels and the Alice + Olive white wedge.

Lela Rose Arcady $38

Alice + Olivia Eric Mary Jane $28

Lela Rose Maxwell Wedge $27

Probably the only shoes I could wear from this collection are these chocolate brown boots with exposed zipper and pyramid stud. I really like the teal sole. But, just because I can't think of one place I could ever legitimately wear the spike heels in my corner of the world doesn't mean they aren't the height of fashion somewhere.
