I tend to go through phases with my hair. I declare that I want to grow it long only to have the urge to chop it off a few months later. I look through magazines and pictures on the Internet hoping to find that one style, that one haircut, or that one product that will give me the hair that I want. To be honest, it never comes out the way I expect.
I have survived bad haircuts and bad style choices only to come out on the other side still unsatisfied with my look. I've asked to have my hair cut or styled like a certain celebrity only to be disappointed when the results were not the same. Well, who wouldn't be!? I don't have access to the same stylists and products as the stars, so why would I expect my hair to be anything like theirs!?
What I recently came to realize is that I need to look at my hair not as it pertains to a celebrity, but as it pertains to me. I need to embrace the texture and waves of my hair that I often try to hide with a flat iron or a hat. I need to quit trying to duplicate the look of other women and celebrate the look that is me. I know how much time and effort I'm willing to dedicate to my hair. I know the techniques I can perform everyday as well as what hair length is most workable. All of these things cannot be found in a magazine–they can only be found within me.
So, as I prepare for Spring and the need for a fresh style, I will remember that I must embrace what I have and find a way to make it one of my best assets.

I have very unique hair. No look-alike hair cut has EVER worked for me. My recommendation is to go to a good hair dresser, sit down and tell them to do whatever they think is best. I did that last time I knew my hair needed a change, and BOY did they do wonders!
Hair dressers usually have seen more than enough heads of hair to know what would or wouldn't work. But you've got to find a good one. A good hair dresser is worth their weight in gold!
