Read and Play: It Looked Like Spilt Milk

We've been having some wonderful cloud-watching days lately. One of our favorite cloud stories is It Looked Like Spilt Milk by Charles G. Shaw. My kids love the predictable words:

Sometimes it looked like a Tree. But it wasn't a Tree.

Sometimes it looked like an Ice Cream Cone. But it wasn't an Ice Cream Cone.

After enjoying this story and finding some cloud shapes of our own up in the sky, we continued exploring clouds with some simple art materials.

Painting with a "cloud" – clothespin holding 1 or 2 cotton balls and white paint:

Dipping cotton balls in glue and sticking on paper (stretching the cotton balls is really fun, too!):

Making blot art clouds – Fold your paper in half. Open the paper and put some white paint on the fold or anywhere you like. Re-fold the paper and rub, rub, rub to spread the paint. Open your paper and see what your cloud looks like!

Happy cloud-watching!

  1. Hey kinda looks like a Rorschach test! I'm sure this activity will develop creative and abstract thinking in young kids.

Will you see the new Twilight movie New Moon on Friday?
