Ruby Red: The Color That Can Help Save Your Life

beauty Ruby Red: The Color That Can Help Save Your Life

When I was growing up, my dad used to make what I like to call a "citric elixir."  He squeezed 3 ripe ruby reds, 1 oranges, 1/2 lemon and mixed with honey for a touch of sweetness. He served it over ice and called it "man-ade," or so I remember.

Today, it seems dear ole Dad was onto something.

Did you know researchers have discovered that eating 1 ruby red grapefruit a day–versus no grapefruit or 1 white grapefruit–was twice as likely to lower total and bad "LDL" cholesterol? Or that eating 1 ruby red could slash your triglyceride levels three times as much as white grapefruit? In case your wondering, high triglyceride levels = high cholesterol = bad news. The higher your triglyceride level the more at risk you are for heart disease and other ailments like diabetes.

So, what are you waiting for?

Add a splash of ruby red to your everyday diet and help reduce your cholesterol in the process–it's a definite win-win for everyone involved. Great taste and good for you–it doesn't get much better than that!

  1. Just a word of warning – I'm taking Zocor, and the last time I got my Rx refilled, the pharmacist asked me if I'd cut out all grapefruit from my diet. He said that taking the two together could lead to bad things.
