And then there were 12. I thought last week the judges made the right decision last week sending Karla and Vitolio home. I liked them both, but they were the weakest. It is getting tougher every week!!
Melissa and Ade: Ade should get big props just for sporting that costume. I thought it was a super fun dance, but at times they looked a little awkward coming out of their lifts. But then again, those lifts were amazing. And their energy and commitment to the dance made it really entertaining. Judges loved them, as usual. These two could be some dark horses.
Kayla and Kupono: That was an intensely powerful dance. I had chills and tears in my eyes. Kupono’s character was haunting. I am so glad Mia explained the back story so we could feel the complete emotion of the dance. I think this one will be one to remember. The judges unanimously praised both the choreography and the dancers. These two do not deserve to be in the bottom anymore so I hope they completely avoid it this week.
Caitlin and Jason: Thought the feel of this dance was great and loved the lifts, but I felt like they were a bit off at time. Actually I felt like Jason missed a few things here and there. But the experts didn’t seem to think anything was wrong and really praised the dance. I agree completely that it was very elegant and the style of dance seemed to suit them both.
Jeanine and Phillip: Russian folk dancing? Oh Phillip, you are in trouble. Actually, Phillip surprised me and didn’t do too bad. Jeanine oddly enough looked like she had been doing that all her life. I was entertained to a point but the dance itself seemed really corny and more like something you would see at a festival than on SYTYCD. The judges pretty much agreed that the dance was too simplistic and as Nigel said, thank God they have another dance tonight.
Randi and Evan: Hip hop routine about a surprise pregnancy. Interesting theme. I thought they did a really great job and the choreography was well suited to them. I thought Randi was a stand out in that. I loved her strength. I agree with Tyce (oddly enough, the man in nonsensical) that Evan needs to bring it a bit more. But he did surprise me considering his background. Very entertaining.
Jeanette and Brandon: These two are so good every freakin’ week. This dance was very sexy and passionate. Although I will have to say I felt that passion way more from Jeanine. She exuded sexy. Her legs go on forever. The judges gave a standing ovation at the end and Nigel called it as close to perfection for a ballroom dance the show has ever seen. I agree. Amazing.
Melissa and Ade: That was really beautiful. Ade just comes out of nowhere every week to wow me. Those lifts and turns were really impressive. And Melissa just glides across the floor. She is also blowing my mind every week. The judges seemed generally impressed with some minor criticisms about form and strength, but to the untrained eye, I think it was really good.
Kayla and Kupono: Super cute Broadway number. I thought it was very entertaining, light and fun. The judges wanted them both to get a bit more into their characters and bring more to the routine, but I honestly didn’t see that. I thought they both looked right at home in this style and really embodied the throw back feel of the dance. I guess we will see what America thinks.
Caitlin and Jason: These guys needed a routine that was in their style to show us what they are about. And I thought they delivered. The routine itself was simplistic in nature, but that is part of what I really enjoyed because it wasn’t full of tricks and gimmicks, just beautiful dancing. The judges seemed to love it but no one was really over the top in their praise. These guys have been in the bottom three a lot so it will be interesting to see if they did enough.
Jeanine and Phillip: Loved the idea behind this dance and Jeanette was the perfect dancer to pull that off. She was on fire. And her acting background totally brings her to the next level. Phillip pulled off another dance that I thought he would be a disaster at. He really brought his game up this week. This dance totally redeemed them from the Russian crazy dance earlier in the show. I hope they sail through.
Randi and Evan: I think these two have a little bit of a hard time pulling off super sexy cause they look a little goofy. I thought Evan seemed like he was holding back and in general needs to be more aggressive in his dancing. The judges completely agreed with that and I agree with them that Randi once again pulled focus during the dance. It will be interesting to see how the pair of them fare once they are with other people.
Jeanette and Brandon: I was really impressed at how Wade (the choreographer) brought out Brandon’s personality. That is the most animated I have ever seen him. Jeanette is probably the most versatile ballroom dancer they have ever had on the show. The two of them together are a force to be reckoned with. I think we might just be looking at our top two dancers.
This was one of the best shows I recall seeing in all the seasons of SYTYCD. Barely a dud in the bunch. Which makes it nearly impossible to guess who might be in the bottom two. Who do you think>?
