The top 16 perform. I thought last week’s bottom 3 was particularly harsh and was disappointed to see Ashley and Max go. This group is so stellar it is going to be hard every week.
Jonathan and Karla: Karla completely and totally out danced him. It really highlighted his weakness with hip hop. I think the dance would have been much better served by a different couple. They weren’t in sync for most of the dance. And Nigel completely called them out in his rather lengthy rambly critique. They are destined for the bottom three I am afraid.
Vitolio and Asuka: I think Asuka’s fears from the pre-dance clip were realized. She just didn’t seem to dance down and dirty as the song and style demanded. Her dance style seemed to “pretty” and she seemed off for much of the dance. They didn’t seem in sync and Vitolio really outshined her. Nigel apparently saw something very different, but Mary agreed with me. I have no idea what Mickey, I mean Tony Basil, was talking about.
Ade and Melissa: Ooh, rumba. I don’t see these 2 two having that kind of chemistry. But I think they sold it. I was really impressed with the way these guys took on a dance that was so far out of their style. Ade looked very strong and Melissa looked super sexy. These two are coming out of nowhere in this competition to rise to the top each week. The judges loved them.
Brandon and Janette: This is one of the coolest concepts they have done on the show. And these 2 have the potential to kill it. After the dance, all I can say is, is there anything these 2 can’t do? Seriously, the both were amazing!! Brandon did hip hop like that is what he had been doing his whole life and Janette, dang, Janette, you are blowing me away. And the judges again, sang their praises. Well, duh. Anyone who could find fault with that is insane. See you two near the finals.
Kupono and Kayla: Very beautiful dance. It almost had more of a contemporary feel than ballroom (see how I act like I know I am talking about).Maybe it was the bare feet. I thought this couple had a lot of chemistry for their first time together. Mary even gave them a scream. For a Viennese Waltz? She is hopped up on something. But all the judges seemed to really like the dance. I concur.
Evan and Randi- the concept behind this dance could not be weirder. He is obsessed with her butt. Um, ok. Anyway, I thought it was a cute dance and they danced it really well. Wonder what her hubby thought of that? Anyway again, the judges unanimously raved about it and Mia seemed pleased from the audience. They will sail through again.
Jason and Caitlin: One of the best songs ever. But the dance…eh. I thought Jason seemed really strong, but Caitlyn didn’t seem to have enough aggression. Something just seemed to be missing that I can’t put my finger on. The judges didn’t seem to feel the same though so possibly I again have no idea what I am talking about. They gave them lots of praise.
Phillip and Jeanine: Super cute and fun dance. I was highly entertained. I think Jeanine stole the show with all the animation and pep. But I thought Phillip held his own. The judges all praised Jeanine, but seemed to want more of Phillip. I think for those of us who don’t know jack about dance, we were left smiling and entertained and that is what matters.

The thing missing for me in Jason & Kaitlyn's Paso Doble was the sharpness – the snap to the arms. It was all too fluid. I was disappointed because I really thought Jason had the ability to win it all. I loved Evan and Randi – I think they dance so well together and some of his jumps were amazing. He seemed to just stay up in the air much longer than he should have.
