So You Think You Can Dance- Week One

entertainment So You Think You Can Dance Week One
Ok so unlike American Idol, I cannot claim to remotely know what I am talking about when it comes to dance. I have always wished I could tap dance or jazz dance or hip hop dance, but really I can just barely hold my own on a wedding reception dance floor. But I have watched SYTYCD since season one and it had me at hello. So I am excited to cover the season for Blissful Buzz. Can’t wait to hear what you all think of the dancers.

Jeanine and Phillip: They scored hip hop with Tabitha and Napolean, last years stand out choregraphers. This is Phillip’s forte, but Jeanine initially seems a bit out of her league. But I thought she did awesome. They had great chemistry, seemed very together on all the unison stuff which seems crazy hard. The judges praised Jeanine for keeping up with Phillip and praised Phillip…well for being Phillip. They will sail through and may end up being a crowd favorite.

Asuka and Vitolio: They are doing a Broadway number with Tyse. I think this is a good match for their personalities. I thought they did a good job, but I thought it was lacking just a little in energy. Mary echoed that sentiment and said they played it too safe. Overall the judges praised technique, but wanted to see more personality.

Karla and Jonathan: I don’t recognize either of these guys from everything we have seen so far so I think they have their work cut out from them. They are doing a salsa which seems to be Jonathan’s forte. I thought it seemed strong from a technical level, but again, it just seemed to lack a little energy. They had great chemistry. Apparently I don’t know what I am talking about cause they even got a Mary scream. Judges loved them.

Randi and Evan: How did Evan score a Broadway piece? Score!! Randi is the first married person I can remember on SYTYCD and they have quite the sensual number. Poor Randi’s husband. I thought their chemistry was really good and I loved the dance. The judges loved the dance and I agree with them that this is a couple people will fall in love with.

Paris and Tony: I like these two a lot. And I think they will kill hip hop. After watching them, I think Paris totally stole that dance from the natural hip hopper. I loved that dance. So fun and they nailed it!! The judges disagreed with me (and my hubby who also loved it) and didn’t think it was memorable. I think they will get through anyway because they are a very likeable couple.

Caitlen and Jason: Bollywood. Ok, the standard is so high from Katie and Josh last year when they killed their Bollywood number, but these two are definitely crowd favorites. The speed of this is insane. And Kaitlen seemed to have a little trouble keeping up, but I thought it was a super cool dance. The judges loved both of them. Great dance!!

Janatte and Brandon: I always get nervous for the people who draw ballroom because it frankly just isn’t as exciting as some of the other styles. Especially foxtrot. I think these two should be lucky they already most likely have a fan following so that should help them out. I thought Brandon totally captured the personality of the dance and stole the spotlight. I loved all the lifts, they were spectacular. The judges all loved them both.

Ashley and Kupono: Jazz with Wade Robinson. Sometimes he is amazing, sometimes I am left very confused. Crash test dummies? I am left confused. I am not even sure if it was danced well because it was so out there. I did think that Ashley stood out in the dance. The judges all loved the dance and the dancing so they must be more highly evolved than I am. I am left just thinking weird.

Melissa and Ade: A contemporary dance that was a love story, but I didn’t believe their chemistry. I did love the lifts and they both are very powerful dancers. The judges were all choked up by the dance so they apparently believed the chemistry. I completely agree with them that we need to see more of them. I think they will be strong every week.

Kayla and Max: These guys both have really cool back stories. And I expect them to really nail this samba after the little preview. Especially since this is Max’s specialty. But I thought Kayla was the one who really stood out tonight. She looked like a natural ballroom dancer and had double the personality of Max on stage. The judges raved about them including Mary who put them on the hot tamale train. What a way to end the night.

This is clearly the most talented top 20 they have ever had. There really wasn’t a bad dance of the night. I don’t even have a prediction for who is going home. What do you think.? Aren’t you excited this season is back??? It is going to be a good one!!
