Your 'Someday' Is Here: Making Lists That Matter

Your Someday is Now: Make a Better List!

Laundry, check. Dishes, check. Grocery shopping, check. Carpool, check.  For too many of us, life is often about lists and mundane tasks, but for some of us there is another option–make a better list. This list that is comprised of the things we would do someday, if only we:  had the time; if money weren’t so tight, or my personal favorite,  when the kids get older. Yet, often times someday never comes and our excuses continue while our most important things never get accomplished. Let's change that, TODAY!

Take the time to make a better list! Write down the 40 things you want to do before you turn 40. Come up with 50 fun things to do before the kids go back to school. Write down 25 creative dates for you and your significant other. These are the to-do lists we should be writing–they're the things we'll actually enjoy.

Life is passing us by while we let lists of chores and obligations become our main priority. My lists are about experiences not tasks and yours should be too. By giving my list a face–a title– Someday I Want network, I have given myself the permission to think about my own personal wants and to-do's. I invite you to do the same. Write down the things you’ve always wanted to do and start checking them off, item by item. I'll be here, encouraging you along the way. You are NOT alone.

If you're married or in a relationship, get your significant other involved! My husband and I have really enjoyed connecting through our 40×40 lists and the Alphabet Dating project. He often jokes that he's working on two 40×40 lists since so much of my list is for both of us and/or requires his assistance. We created our lists to give us the opportunity to connect with others who share our dreams. We're pairing our talents, skills and resources with those who need our help to attain their life goals. I love learning from people who have already accomplished things I’ve always wanted to try.

Making lists of your goals and optimal to-do's is a wonderful way to fulfill your life and help others do the same. Remember, it’s your life and it’s time to enjoy it, one list at a time.

    Heather,

Thank you for this inspiring post.

I've become a list-maker since I had my baby 5 months ago. I find with the sleepiness and scatterbrain of trying to run the household and not forget the basics, I lose track of all the unique things I want to do.

I think these lists help us have one eye in the future, too; not getting overwhelmed on a bad day with diapers, sleeplessness, and piles of other things that have to get done.

    Heather,

Awesome post!! And that list thing works great! I made a list of my someday items and I was able to cross every LAST THING off the list. It took me about 3 years but it was sooo well worth.

One of my funnest moments? Finally taking the trip to Disney World AND donning a pair of mouse ears in the process!

    Thanks for sharing!
