Six years ago, I became a mom. I was in my 30's and felt like I could be a great mom. Over the years, I've learned that being a great mom is not easy at all.
During my baby showers, my friends and family wrote me notes of parenting advise. I have not bothered to look at those sweet notes for many years.
The other night, my eldest got the jar of notes down from the shelf. She asked what they were and if we could read them.
"Those notes are from mommy's friends. They wanted to help me be a good parent."
She answered lovingly, "you aren't a very good mom."
So, together we sat and read each and every one of those notes.
A dear friend simply said "PRAY" and that is the one my daughter took from the stack and held on to. Later that night she drew a picture of me, kneeling in prayer. Above my head, hanging from a tree, was the word "PRAY."
Some of the other advise was…
- Read to her every night
- Treat her like a princess and she will believe she is one
- Enjoy every moment, they grow up so fast
- Write down special stories so that you will always remember
- Be patient
So many things to work on.
