I have spent a lot of time wondering if we made the right choice for my oldest daughter’s education (she’s 6). A few of my fears were assuaged this past weekend.

Daddy left for an appointment very early in the morning, so I prayed that the kids would sleep an extra long time . . . to no avail. At 7:30 a.m. I heard someone get up to the go to the bathroom. It was the beginning of the end.

Sure enough, I heard whispering in the bathroom that grew increasingly more heated. Soon my oldest came into my room. Her first question was, “Where’s Daddy?” (I am happy to say that with absolutely no training on my part, my kids always go to Daddy’s side of the bed first.) When she learned where he was, she told me her problem.

“Tessa won’t let me get past her.” Since she is usually not innocent in these scuffles, I asked, “Were you doing anything to her?”

“No,” she replied. “I just remembered what Martin Luther King, Jr. said, ‘Use your words, not your fists.’” My eyes widened as she continued with venom, “So I told her, ‘Please get away from me!’”

I am happy to say that I managed to keep a straight face as I mentally praised her teacher’s effectiveness in education.

It is so amazing what they learn!

  2. Way to go! Sanity is a good thing for moms to hold on to. I'm thankful that she learned this most important lesson…evidence of a good decision about school.
