Starbucks has made an environmental stewardship that by 2015 100% of their cups will be reusable or recyclable by asking their customers to help by taking the mug pledge. What is a mug pledge?
It is simply a commitment made by you to bring your own travel mug with you when you get coffee at Starbucks. (The best part about this pledge is that it does not apply just to Starbucks. You can bring your own travel mug to just about any coffee shop you frequent)! Think of the hundreds of coffee cups, straws, and cup holders you will be keeping out of landfills by taking this pledge.
You can also save $! (10 cents per drink at Starbucks)
For the past year I have been taking my own travel mug to Starbucks and here are my mug pledge stats (based on 2 visits a week): 2 cups a week X 52 weeks in a year = 104 cups, straws, and cup holders saved per year What a huge impact!
I encourage you to take the Mug Pledge too. We can all make an impact, one small change at a time.
Hint: I have 2 travel mugs this way I always have one in my car while the other one is being washed.
When Lena is not at Starbucks you can find her blogging about such things as the mug pledge, probably with a travel mug of coffee nearby, at Over Coffee – the green edition.
