The Love of a Parent

Mother and Child

“Do you know how much I love you?” I ask my son.

“Yes,” he says.

But I secretly wonder, “Does he really?”

Does he really know how much I…

• Love him?
• Adore him?
• Rejoice over his victories?
• Cry over his defeats?

Then it hits me.

Do I know?

Do I really know how much my Heavenly Father…

• Loves me?
• Adores me?
• Rejoices over my victories?
• Cries over my defeats?

Do I really know how much He loves me?

John 3:16 answers all of these questions.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

God created us and He wants to spend all eternity with us. But after the fall, He knew that could never happen without the gift of His Son. Jesus came to this earth and sacrificed himself, so that we, who are sinful, could have a relationship with a just and holy God. That’s how much God loves us.

So this Christmas week as you serve and love on your earthly family, don’t forget to also spend time with your heavenly Father. Let Him remind you of the Baby who was born in a manger and later died on a cross. Let Him remind you of the promise of eternal life. And listen, really listen, as He says, “That’s how much I love you.”
