The Power of Prayer

faith The Power of Prayer

  • "I'm praying for you!"
  • "Pray for me!"
  • "Keep us in your prayers."

Common words.  Do they carry any weight?  Do you feel better when you hear this?  Do these flow off your tongue with no meaning behind them?

Lately I've been learning a lot about prayer.  It seems to pop up in sermons, books and podcasts, so I'm thinking God wants to teach me something, but prayer has always seemed a little unproductive.

When I go through hard times, sometimes the Word of God is like food and air, a necessity that I can't do without and it brings me so much comfort and wisdom and instruction.  Other times, it seems trivial.  Sometimes the harsh reality of this very real world seems so much more powerful than the subtle, invisible world of God and His promises.

If you are suffering today and relying on the prayers of others, a few sweet verses might not bring you relief.  But when you do find relief in His Word, it is a very real relief that does offer some peace and joy amidst heartbreak.  So I pray and pray and pray that you get that relief from Him.

II Thess. 1:11 (The Message), Paul, Silas & Timothy were speaking to the church at Thessalonia.  "Because we know that this extraordinary day is just ahead, we pray for you all the time — pray that our God will make you fit for what he's called you to be, pray that he'll fill your good ideas and acts of faith with his own energy so that it all amounts to something.  If your life honors the name of Jesus, he will honor you."."
