One of the true pitfalls of deployment, for the men and women who serve us proud, is the struggle of homesickness.
While my husband and I were still dating, he was deployed to Greece for a year. Midway through his deployment he was really struggling with longing for home.
Around that time I began to listen in for his mention of the little things he was missing. One of those things happened to be American commercials.
So, I set out to record as many as I could and send them to him.
If a loved one of yours is deployed try to pay attention to the little things he or she mentions as well. Maybe he or she misses their hometown newspaper or a certain snack. Or maybe they miss articles on a favorite sports team from magazines here in the States or even tabloids!
If that’s the case, surprise your loved one with a little package of “All Things Home” and try to think outside the box.
Believe me, they will love it. And you for thinking of them!
