We've all heard that old adage: crying is for girls or how about this one: people who cry are weak. Some of us have grown up our whole lives hearing statements like these; and to this day, we beat up on ourselves whenever we shed a tear. Well, ENOUGH.
Crying isn't a sign of weakness but of strength. It shows that you respect your feelings, your thoughts and your limitations. We aren't meant to be the burden bearer of all things. Let's face it, there are some things that just can't be carried–they must be released. Crying is that release. Here's why:
• When we cry, it allows our bodies to eliminate harmful stress hormones which have been known to damage brain cells
• When we cry, we release toxins that are associated with various emotions
• When we cry, it allows our bodies to release hormones that help deter depression
No one claims to know all the benefits about crying but most people agree that releasing emotional pain through tears tends to do a body good.

Thanks for this. I had a good, solid cry last night, and although I didn't sleep well after, I do feel better today.
Amphritrite,
Thank you so much for responding. Crying heals the soul and the fact that we feel lighter and better afterwards is all the proof we really need.
And I hope you're feeling much better. Just remember, that too will pass.
