I am a hairy woman.
There. I've said it. There's nothing I can do to change it, but I don't have to like it.
Several years ago, I found that I was allergic to waxing. Three days prior to standing in at a friend's wedding, my eyebrows broke out in big, puffy red patches. I thought it was a fluke.
So, weeks later I tried it again and I got the same result; only this time I waxed my eyebrows AND my lip. I looked like death warmed over. Certain, I was doomed to a life of insistent tweezing, l told my beautician friend that I would never do waxing again.
"Oh," she said. "Well, why don't you try threading?"
Threading is an ancient Middle Eastern technique that's become popular in the U.S. and consists of three basic steps:
- When you thread: a doubled-over thread is twisted until tight.
- The twirled section is placed over the hair to be removed.
- Then the ends are pulled apart to tighten the twist, pulling hair out as it goes.
If you're concerned about pain, threading is no more painful than plucking, and the pricing is similar to that of waxing. You can get more defined results with threading, but make sure you visit an experienced aesthetician to get the best results.
I know I'll never go back!

when you say "i know i'll never go back" do you mean never going back to other hair removal methods, or never going back to be threaded?
Heh – sorry! I meant never going back to waxing or plucking!
I prefer the term hirsute! I've never tried threading- I always figured it would take forever! My days of lolling at the salon are over, at least for the next 18 years!
