What Does This Entrance Hall Say?

home What Does This Entrance Hall Say?

Take a look at this entrance hall from a Better Homes & Gardens decorating book published in the 1950s. The book's author thought it was saying "Welcome!" What do you think it says?

I'm a total real-estate junkie, which is why I have a blog called "Hooked on Houses." I can't get enough of home tours, open houses, decorating mags, home-improvement shows on TV, and all that fun stuff. When I'm not blogging about houses and decorating, I'm writing magazine articles and content for college textbooks. It's the perfect job because I can work from home and be here for my kids (Jake, 13, and Lily, 6) at the same time!

  1. The hallway is classic. It invites you in as soon as you yu come into the door. A chair to invite to sit down if needed. Flowers to add live. Pictures at the bottom of the stairs to make the house a home and bring you to the first steps. A bookcase at the top of the otairs beckoning you to come upstairs.

I think the only thing that needs to be toned down to bring it up to day is the floor. Still alot of great pointers

blech! Maybe my taste is off, but the floor, the frilly stair rail… It is so textbook: pictures but not too many, fresh flowers, no clutter… but it is totally lifeless, no character and no personal touches. I would wonder if I could sit on the couch in such a personality-less house = in fact the couch is probably covered in sheets.
