Folic Acid is a critical B vitamin; women should make sure they are getting at least 400 mcg of Folic Acid per day. It helps prevent major birth defects such as spina bifida, and studies have shown that Folic Acid intake prior to becoming pregnant might be most beneficial.
Not planning on children? Folic Acid also helps keep nails and hair healthy! It can be found in many breads and cereals, as well as in the supplement aisle of your grocery store.
