Tip #1:  Change the angle.  Not everything in life is straight and level.

Photographing the Hard to Photograph Child

Photographing the Hard to Photograph Child

As a photographer and a mother, I am always using my children as subjects.
I love candid shots, but I also like to pose them from time-to-time.    I recently got some studio lights and backdrops.  A few days ago my husband set them up  to play with and–of course–used the kids as subjects.

Finding Inspiration

In trees and twigs,
In cows and pigs.
In homes and cars,
In our moon and stars.
In eyes and smiles,
In messy piles.
In rust and in old,
In silver and gold.
In lyrics in word,
In songs that are heard.
In breath and air,
In everywhere.
In me and in you,
In all we do.
Inspiration is found,
In the world around.

A few weeks ago I stopped the van, hopped out, flicked on my camera, and started shooting this [...]

Pop Flash Pop Eyes

Pop Flash Pop Eyes

The most popular way to make eyes pop, in portraiture,  is by the use of Photoshop or some other editing software in post process.  However, there is a very easy way to do this while taking the picture. Use your flash!
I love natural light, but sometimes there just isn't enough available (long winter be gone!)   [...]

To "I Do" It All Over Again

Michael and I were married on September 30, 1995.  This year we will have been married 14 years and while it seems like an eternity, it also seems like it was just yesterday.   Like everything, hindsight is 20/20, because if I had it to do all over again there is so much that I would  [...]

Tips for Appetizing Photography

ap⋅pe⋅tiz⋅ing

I love to take photos of food. There's something sensual about it to me.   Here are some tips for what I consider appetizing photography!

Get in close so that the textures of the food are really apparent.
Make sure you have some superb natural light or use a flash as fill.
