Sears’ New Shop Your Way MasterCard Means You Can Earn Points Your Way

Today’s Girls Night Out Might Be Tomorrow’s Sears Washing Machine! ** Although this is a sponsored post, Blissfully Domestic writes about the things that interest us and new ideas we want to share with you - all the opinions expressed are my own.** As my kids have gotten older and more self-sufficient, I have truly discovered the importance of adult time, and especially time with girlfriends to catch up and yes, very important, have fun! As adults, it’s harder to make friends and more important than ever to have those friends who understand where you are coming from and where you are going to (or trying to go to). As important as time is with friends, in my house the budget is just as important. Like using coupons at the grocery store or making sure to cash in those extra … [Read more...]

A Perfect Dinner Party – for your Teen!

At a certain point, the themed birthday parties of grade school no longer fit the bill when you teen wants to celebrate a special day.  It's time to think outside the box.   Why not help your teen throw a dinner party ? We've done this with great success and you can too.  Here are some basic guidelines for throwing a Teen Dinner Party.   Have the kids "dress up" - it's a special night (or day) and teens love to show off their style, so encourage guests to dress up. Decorations don't have to be fancy.  Simple white tablecloths, small flower arrangements, candles (battery operated), little holiday lights, and a pre set table all have a sense of grown-up elegance. Splurge on "wow" for the appetizers but keep the main course full of easy kids favorites.  We filled … [Read more...]

Charter Our Community – A Day to Give Back

“I am SO blessed” said the homeowner, standing on her front steps watching as the crews organized and divided up to tackle the day’s projects.   On a beautiful weekend day, I had joined the Charter Our Community team, Charter Communications philanthropic initiative, which provides education, resources and financial support to improve homes in the Charter “footprint.” It’s a chance for their employees and other volunteers to make a difference in their communities.   We were all there to help make two neighboring homes safe and healthy. While a good majority of the volunteers were Charter employees, there were off duty police officers and folks from other companies like Scripps, along with representatives from the Rebuilding Together team.   Rebuilding … [Read more...]

It seems I am not the only one who find the summer season NOT the holiday season to be the time when I really slack off on exercise and eating right!   In summer, the school routine is gone and as everything relaxes and the heat outside seems too much to bear for exercise we all find that maybe we’ll “just skip a day or so” and that unfortunately, it becomes weeks!  So now school is back in session and its time to kick start your exercise and … [Read more...]

Community Gardening – Summer Maintenance and Harvest of a Square Foot Garden

Hurry up and wait.  That’s what this first month of the garden has been.  After planning and building and filling the raised bed, there was plant purchases and reading and actual planting.   Now we wait.  Planting in late May, we chose to skip seeding for the most part and chose organic plants to transplant into the bed. The good news – almost all of them have taken hold.  We did lose the cilantro almost immediately – this wasn’t much of a surprise as I’ve never had much luck with cilantro even in containers on the back porch.   We built a trellis for the cucumbers and staked the tomatoes. With tomatoes, you ultimately have 2 varieties – determinate and indeterminate.  Basically – those are plants that will either produce one time a set amount (determinate) or continue to produce … [Read more...]
