The Backstreet Boys are making a comeback that most likely tops all other comebacks that have been seen lately. The group has been together for sixteen years. Sixteen! Years! I've been a fan ever since I heard their first single. As a twenty four year old, this makes me feel almost as old as I felt when I could still remember listening to New Kids on the Block.

Their latest album, "This is Us," which released October 6th, delivers an amazing combo of R&B and techno, liberally coated with the vocal talents that put the Backstreet Boys on the map in the first place. The Boys worked with top names like RedOne and T-Pain, so prepare yourself for some auto-tuning, but it's not overdone, which is a welcome relief. The group puts their very own twist on modern trends in pop music and make it their very own.

The beats are catchy and utterly danceable, the lyrics are clean, and the slower tunes will melt your heart. The only weak track of the album happens to be "PDA." I say weak because the lyrical content has echoes of material from New Kids on the Block's "The Block," and the heavy sexual innuendo doesn't fit Backstreet very well.

Otherwise, the album is a fabulous, bubble gum popping, R&B flashback to the days when I had a major crush on A.J. McLean, mixed with an edge of today's pop music. Favorite tracks include:

Bigger

If I Knew Then

Straight Through My Heart

Click here to check out the group's website. You can also pick up your copy via iTunes. The Deluxe Version (only on iTunes) is a must for long-time (read: hardcore) fans, as it includes seven videos – six live and your very own copy of the Straight Through My Heart music video – and a bonus track, "Helpless."

And I have to admit, I still have a huge crush on A.J. McLean.

I'm sure you've never thought of housecleaning as elegant but I assure you it can be when you're listening to At Home With Friends by Joshua Bell.

I'm sure you've never thought of housecleaning as elegant but I assure you it can be when you're listening to At Home With Friends by Joshua Bell.

When I received Bell's new album, At Home With Friends, I was blown away by it. I think my Facebook status the first day I listened to it was something like, "Joshua Bell's new album is intoxicating. I just want to melt into the floor and listen to it forever."

A few days later, I put it in the CD player while I cleaned the kitchen and all of sudden I felt elegant and intelligent and enlightened all while up to my elbows in hot water and suds.

I've always enjoyed collaboration albums and At Home With Friends does not disappoint. My favorite? "Come Again" with Sting. I will listen to that one over and over again when I'm alone in the car.

Oh, which reminds me of another bonus point this album gets. I listen to it when I'm alone in the car. You see, once my children exit the car and all their noise leaves with them, I'm usually loathe to turn on the radio or put in a CD. I like the quiet because I get so little of it while they are awake. So to have found music I willingly turn on during my precious "quiet time" is a very high compliment!

The star power on this album is definitely breathtaking; in addition to Sting there's Josh Groban, Kristin Chenoweth, Regina Spektor (the previously unrecorded, fan favorite, "Left Hand Song" is on this album!), Marvin Hamlisch, Frankie Moreno and many more. The amount of talent on this album is absolutely mind boggling.

If you'd like to add a bit of refinement and elegance into your life, I definitely recommend this album. I, in fact, am hoping to add more of Bell's work to my repertoire of housecleaning music!

I'm sitting in a large, dark, smoky room. There are cocktail and high ball glasses scattered over the tables. A handsome crooner is singing in the spotlight with a big band accompanying him. The music is smooth, the horns are bright and loud. People are milling about, some dancing, some conversing in low tones. The bartender is busy but relaxed. From behind me I hear, "Mommy! Can we listen to something else?" "Mommy! I'm thirsty!"

Oh wait…no, I'm actually in my car.

But that's the mood that is set by Harry Connick, Jr's new album, Your Songs. I feel transported back to another time to the big band era. I feel like, for a few moments at least, like a classy grown-up doing classy grown-up things.

This album is "Harry does covers". And he does them well, albeit a bit cheesy at times. There are no 'original to him' songs on here. And the songs run the gamut from The Carpenters to Stevie Wonder to The Beatles to Nat King Cole, even Elvis! And, of course, a couple from the classic crooners, Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. They are all love songs that we all know and well, love.

I like the way the only "spin" Harry puts on the songs is to make them sound like big band songs ('cause I really love me some big band music). Other than that there are no major stylistic maneuvers, he sings them like they were written and he sings them well. Not that I expected anything else, this is Harry after all!

I fell in love with John Ondrasik's voice when the song Superman (It's Not Easy) , inspired by the events of 9/11, hit the radio years ago. Today, John Ondrasik - performing under the stage name Five for Fighting – releases the new album Slice.

With his distinctive voice and radio friendly piano melodies, Five for Fighting has released a solid album that has been in rotation on my iPod for the past few days. Stand out songs include "Chances" , the first release from the album, as well as "This Dance" and "Transfer".

There are a few songs that seem out of place in this collection (The song "Hope" in particular seems to be a frequent target of my "NEXT" button). If you are a fan of Five for Fighting's style, you'll enjoy "Slice" – which remains true to the sound that you're probably used to. The melodies and hooks are truly infectious – and you'll likely find yourself (as I have) humming along after your first listen.

I saw Brandi Carlile live in Reno last fall completely by chance. I had never heard of her before, but the tickets were a gift from a friend, so I wasn't about to turn it down. I fell in love at the show. If Johnny Cash were brought back as a woman, with just a twinge more rock and roll influence, Brandi Carlile would be it. In fact, at her show in Reno, she performed a chill-and-cheer-inducing cover of "Folsom Prison Blues."

Suffice to say, I've been looking forward to the release of her new album, "Give Up the Ghost." It's here, it's on my iPod, and it's mind-blowing. Carlile delivers yet again with lyrical content offering a frank look at herself, life, love, and even family with the track "Caroline," written for her niece.

With producer Rick Rubin on the album, and contributions from Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Hill, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Trench, Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls, and Elton John, "Give Up The Ghost" is a powerful album sure to be in heavy rotation on my iTunes. If you want to sample some of her music for yourself, go to http://www.brandicarlile.com.

This whole album is enjoyable – it moves between a more mellow soulful pop sound and songs that are a bit more uptempo. Kate Earl's music has a bit of an Ingrid Michaelson feel – this Alaskan-born artist has a bit of the same folky vibe that Ingrid is known for.

Throw in the soft and romantic with songs like Another Wasted Rose and Worth the Fall.
