    Seal has “Soul”

    Friday, November 14th, 2008

blissful-buzz Seal has SoulNow I can add one more item to my list of reasons why I am jealous of Heidi Klum: her husband’s voice? Amazing, amazing, amazing. I have long been a fan of Seal, since I first heard “Crazy” – and through the years, I have enjoyed his other tunes. His latest album “Soul” is no exception, except the kicker is that each of the songs recorded on this album are classic soul songs. There are no “new” tunes on this album, yet Seal manages to put his touch on every tune. From the opening track, “A Change Is Gonna Come” (originally performed by Sam Cooke), to the last track “People Get Ready”, this album filled with classics is still amazingly relevant.

Since receiving the CD, it’s remained in near constant play: in my house, in the car, back in the house. Seal’s voice skates effortlessly through these songs and the result is one fantastic song after another. From the romantic “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” to the more upbeat “Knock On Wood”, Seal and producer David Foster dazzle the listener with an amazing selection of songs that will make this a classic in your collection.

Would you like to win a copy of “Soul”? Of course you would! Not only do we have a copy of Seal’s fantastic album up for grabs, we also have this cool iPod speaker too! To win, leave a comment below letting us know what your favorite Seal tune is. We’ll pick a winner at random to win the disk and the speaker.

    White Trash Giveaway!

    Thursday, September 11th, 2008

    White_trash_mombigthumbnail

Last August, author and blogger Michelle Lamar gave away two copies of her best-selling book, The White Trash Mom Handbook.  Now, she wants to give away more copies!

What is this book about?  (excerpt from the August post)

Michelle says, “My definition of ‘white trash’ is just my own personal shorthand for ‘imperfect.’ And imperfect covers most of us.”

Somewhere there’s been a disconnect, where moms think they have to not just have it all, but do it all. You’re supposed to work an 8 hour day, keep a spotless house, bake cookies for the school bake sale, and hand make invitations for your child’s 3rd birthday bash, inviting 700 of your kid’s closest friends, dontcha know? The White Trash Mom Handbook teaches you not just how to fake it, but how to keep from losing your mind while doing so.

The book handles these sorts of issues with style and humor- just what is needed in these overscheduled times. We often lament that life with children doesn’t come with a handbook. Sure, there are plenty of parenting guides out there, but they often serve to make you feel guilty for not having the spotless house while doing the most creative art projects EVER with your kids. The White Trash Mom Handbook is not one of those books. This is solid parenting advice for the rest of us, who are imperfect but are still pretty darn fabulous, despite our imperfections.

Want a copy for yourself? Blissfully Domestic has THREE!! copies to give away.

To enter, just leave a comment for this post by 9:00 PM (Pacific Time) Monday, September 15th.  At that time, special trained monkeys will select three winners at random, in a very scientific manner.

Want an extra shot a winning? Mention the giveaway on your own blog and leave the link for the post in comments. This will give you another entry for this fantastic, must-have book.

    Weight Watchers Giveaway

    Thursday, August 14th, 2008

About a year ago I had an epiphany.  I was fat.  By doctors terms I may have even been obese.  I was completely unhappy with how I looked and how I felt and decided that it was time that something was done.  After talking with different people about all kinds of diets and eating plans, I decided to try Weight Watchers Online.

    Ww_2

I signed up for Weight Watchers Online because honestly going to meetings just didn’t interest me.  I am a self-motivating person and if I set my mind on accomplishing something, then everybody watch out cause not much can stop me!! (Those of you who know me in real life can stop laughing now!) Online there were also some great tools and the techie in me had a blast using the point tracker, weight tracker, exercise tracker, recipe maker, message boards, and all the other cool E-tools.  I started tracking what I was eating and about a year later was 40lb lighter and feeling great.  I felt so great that I found myself tracking less and less so I decided to take a break and see what I could do on my own.  I did well for awhile, but lately noticed the weight coming back on.  There was no way I was going to let myself go down that road again so I decided to re-subscribe to lose the last 20 pounds and reach my final goal.J0430469

When you join Weight Watchers Online you have the ability to choose a food plan that works for you. You can choose either the Flex Plan where you are given a certain amount of points and can eat what you choose as long as you stay within your point range or the Core Plan where you can eat as much as you want as long as the food is a core food.

One thing about me.  I do NOT do well with somebody telling me I can’t have something. So one guess what I chose. Yep, the flex plan so I can use points however I choose. Of course the more fruits and veggies I eat, the more food I am allowed since they are so low in points, but if I want that Oreo cookie, not a problem as long as I track it. The food tracker is a breeze to use to keep track of your points. The majority of the foods that I eat are already in their database so all I have to do is type in the name of the food and voila, I know how many points it is. If I’m making something special for dinner then I can use the recipe builder where I enter all the ingredients, how many servings it has, and then know exactly how many points the recipe is. Eating out.  Most of the food is already in there so I can check the menu online then use the tracker to find the best food for me. So easy!!

Why am I telling you all this?

I met a PR for Weight Watchers on Twitter the other day and she gave me three 3mo. subscriptions to Weight Watcher Online for me to giveaway to my readers.

So now you can have the opportunity to try out Weight Watchers Online for yourself and we can be Weight Watcher buddies! I am giving away one online subscription over at A Box of Chocolates, plus another at Chic Critique where I write about healthy, beauty and fashion, and most importantly you can win one RIGHT HERE!

All you have to do to win is leave a comment here telling me why you want to lose weight. I will use random.org to choose the lucky winner on Sunday, August 24th.

Don’t forget to come over to my place for another chance to win and find out how to sign up for the 3 mo subscription giveaway at Chic Critique.

Good luck.  I can’t wait to get healthier with you!!!

You can find Mel sharing her Weight Watchers journey at A Box of Chocolates.
