Fun with Caterpillars

“In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.”  Thus begins Eric Carle’s classic childrens book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

I am a fan of this book not only for the whimsical illustrations and story but also for the opportunity to assist my children in learning about the beautiful metamorphosis of butterflies!

We recently ordered caterpillars from Insect Lore and we watched our caterpillars transform into chrysalis and then emerge as beautiful Painted Lady butterflies!  My 5-year old loves checking and recording their daily progress into his nature journalIt is so much fun!

Last month was the 40th Anniversary of this beloved children’s book and Cristin from Serendipity came up with the awesome idea of creating this charm bracelet from Shrinky Dink paper.  We can’t wait to try this soon!

I did the Insect Lore Butterfly Garden last spring with my girls (then 2 and 5) and I highly recommend it. It even impressed me as an adult!
