A great way to encourage reading this summer is to take a look at your child’s favorite hobbies.
What are Your Child’s Favorite Hobbies?
Does your child love dinosaurs? There are many fun and informative books on dinosaurs, including pop-up and interactive books that will draw your child into reading.
Are horses your child’s thing? Check out some of the beautiful books on horse breeds, or some of the classics such as Black Beauty or King of the Wind.
What about cars? Some children pour over the latest Car and Driver magazine and can tell you all about the latest car prototypes. Radio-controlled cars are a related interest, and there are magazines devoted to that hobby as well.
Help Develop Interests Through Interesting Children’s Books
Some children do not have clearly defined hobbies, and summer is a good time to help them to start exploring possible interests. Books and magazines can help your child learn about gardening, electronics, fishing, dogs, sewing, and robots. Vacation time is an ideal time to try out hobbies like rock collecting, rocketry, or knitting, and these hobbies in turn can encourage summer reading. It’s the perfect combination!
