Some homeschoolers sit in school desks, and some do their work laying on the floor. Some homeschoolers use an all inclusive curriculum, and some put together everything from scratch. Some homeschoolers keep neat and tidy grade books, and some don’t keep grades at all.
Homeschoolers vary widely in their practices, beliefs, and schedules. However, one thing seems to be a common thread for most homeschoolers that I’ve met or talked to online. Everyone seems to have stacks and stacks of books around their house. Books on book shelves, books in baskets, books in bedrooms, books in bathrooms. Books, books, books.
Our home is no exception to this rule, and it is overrun with books. Because of that, I was thrilled when I stumbled upon PaperBackSwap.com!
PaperBackSwap describes their site like this: “Mail a book. Get a book. Any book you request is yours to keep, share or swap. No late fees. No processing charges. No hidden charges. Every time you mail a book to another member, you can request one for yourself from over 2.8 Million.”
You list the books that you want to pass along to someone else (not just paperbacks, it can be hardcover, audio books, textbooks, etc.) and then wait for someone to request your book. When they do, you mail it out to them. Every time you send out a book, you get a credit to pick out someone else’s book!
Oh — and one other cool thing? When you first join, after you load ten books in to trade, you get two credits! So, you don’t even have to wait for someone to pick one of your books to start “shopping.”
Because of PaperBackSwap, I have been able to find new homes for books that I just didn’t want anymore (including some homeschooling books that weren’t our style but were happily snapped up by a couple of different people using that curriculum).
If you haven’t checked out PaperBackSwap.com yet, I really recommend going to check it out. You just might find that homeschooling book that you have been wanting to pick up!

I’ve been a big fan of paperbackswap as well, however if you are looking to add a little adventure to getting new books, check out bookcrossing – I’m a huge fan of both!
