Needlefelting is a great way to incorporate crafts into your homeschooling studies. It is easy to do and the results are surprisingly good.
If you are studying a project over a period of time, then needlefelting a fleece blanket on the subject of your theme makes a great reminder of your studies. Some ideas are:
- Butterflies or bees around a flower
- Different leaf shapes you have collected on a nature walk
- An Egyptian quilt with pyramids and Pharaohs
- For geography, needlefelt a map to go with your studies
Needlefelting uses a REALLY SHARP needle!!! But you will be amazed how careful children will be (after the first time they prick their finger!). I have tried it with several children now (one was only six!) and it really is something they can manage with supervision. Explain to the child that the needle is very sharp and must be used VERY carefully. Adjust the craft to match your own child’s age and ability.
